This Texas Ranch Family session was impactful in so many ways!
I grew up on an island in the Caribbean. Eternal sunshine, lush greens, and turquoise beaches. The ocean is my love language…and then, after 40 years of paradise, I moved to Texas! I was literally, a fish out of water! The landscape and cultural differences were so radically different.
So, what is a tropical bird doing on Texas plains? A hurricane. Two, actually. Back in 2017, two major hurricanes decimated my beautiful island. We couldn’t stay. We needed out. And the wind blew and blew, and we landed here…like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz.
But Texas, oh, sweet Texas, you know how to conquer a sunset lover’s heart with your stunning displays of lingering glow and warm color pallets in the sky every Fall. I couldn’t help it, I fell in love with you too!
So, follow me in documenting a Home on the Texas Ranch with this fantastic family portrait and lifestyle session. If it feels like a movie, it’s because it was such an epic cowboy adventure!
I love to create an atmosphere for families to feel comfortable and at ease while taking your photographs. Family dynamics, although different for each family, share a lot of laughter, love connection, and yes, even sillyness. I’m always very much aware of the fact that they will be looking into these photographs years from now. Will they remember the joke? Maybe not. But they’ll surely remember the feeling every time they see their photographs.
The Texas Cowboys
In one word: PRIDE! There is such a rustic elegance, indomitable defiance, and confident stance in every cowboy look. I get it. You work hard! But you also enjoy life hard, and that builds such a defining character in the Texas Cowboys so worthy of admiration.
Sometimes the best photographs happen when you put the camera down for a bit and let families be. That’s when real magic happens in a family session.
I tend to be a “trigger-happy” photographer. But I often stop taking photographs for a few seconds in between moments and talk with the person I’m photographing and simply enjoy who they are. The kiddos completely forget to say “cheese” to the camera and their real genuine self shows up! THAT’S what I thrive to photograph!
I’m forever grateful to this family for allowing me into their world to tell their story. This Home on the Ranch family story, the stunning light, and the absolute beauty of what they love to do healed me in more ways than they will ever know. Texas, I love you too!
