“I couldn’t read a newspaper without finding an idea for a cover”
Norman Rockwell, Illustrator for the Saturday Evening Post
I love art! They are very often my aesthetic inspiration for shoots. I’m constantly drawn to browse on contemporary children painters like Sandra Kuck, Vladimir Volego, or nostalgic and innocence paintings from Norman Rockwell, an illustrator for the Saturday Evening Post for 47 years! The first time I was introduced to Rockwell was with the painting “Girl at Mirror” and I was immediately sumerged into the story of the image. It is about a girl who’s holding a fashion magazine on her lap while looking intently at herself in the mirror in a way of comparing her beauty to the girl in the magazine. It is a coming of age kind of image. You can appreciate a tipped over doll at the side of the mirror and some make up next to her. It speaks volumes without saying words! Through an image he was able to tell a whole story. All of his work is like that. It is such an inspiration to me that “I can’t see his images without finding and idea for a photo session” if I dare paraphrase his quote. I love story telling in my images. I want an image to speak of what the subject feels to the spectator.
That was my inspiration for the Vintage Spring session, fine art classic Americana paintings, where lifestyle stamps of everyday kids curiosity and exploration takes place. The set and the boys boys were styled with that in mind, not to mention the little kitten. I knew curiosity was bound to happen with a surprise of a cute kitten on the set 🙂
Brothers Coleton and Cash were adorable with the kitten. They enjoyed every part of it; the swing, the chicks, but mostly the kitten!
Little people’s big personalities are always welcome!
I love the confidence and pure enjoyment on his face!
Cash’s natural expressions of tenderness and glee are heart melting!
Play time!
Running on the grass is the best way to end the day!
