First birthdays is possibly the most important birthday to celebrate. It celebrates the very first one of a lifetime after a most dramatic and incredible transformation from a tiny newborn to a must likely walking, talking tot. The little child you held in your arms now grows into a running always curious little boy. Choosing the theme for his or her first birthday is a very important task. I couldn’t be happier when this mom chose The Little Prince for her baby boy’s first birthday. It just happens that it is one of my favorite stories and a title you can so easily use for your baby boy: Little Prince!
The innocence, whimsical characters and amazing passages in the classic storybook are memorable to all who read the story. We want, no, we long, for a world seeing through The Little Prince’s eyes full of wonder and simplicity, caring and loving unconditionally, whole heartedly, uncompromisingly! It is the integrity and character we all want our children to live by… and this momma knows this too well as she loved the story herself.
For the cute little prince who turned one year old, this session was just a time to smile, play and be absolutely adorable. And yet I wonder how much of the story he knew for he was able to portray scenes from the book I thought I was not going to be able to have him do. Let me explain. When I design a set I take in consideration the age of the child I’ll be photographing. That determines how much he or she is capable of doing and in what depths. For a 5 year old who can understand the story is completely different mind set as for a one year old, who just see likable toys to play with. He truly surprised us! He was able to put a little drama into each part of the story we shoot. Even the flight of the birds, which is absolutely adorable as he “seems” to be caught in the ropes and be flying with the flock of wild birds. I was blown away for how much he enjoyed this part. Never underestimate your children’s capabilities….They are full of surprises!
I wanted to recreate the shininess of starry skies, so I use reflective sequins material for the a glittery effect for a backdrop for the indoors session.
The fun part about styling an inspired session is to see the elements of the story and the characters come to life through your little subject you are photographing. The fact that I’m creating this gorgeous baby boy his very own storybooks gives me enormous joy…he just doesn’t know yet! Here is a book we are working on with our album company in Italy, Graphistudio.
