The Fashionista Session: A Fundraising Event
Our oldest daughter Kiara has been into missions since she was 15. She has been to Haiti, (right after the earthquake), and EU, but mostly Europe. Slovenia has been her main country for three years in a row. She is a hardworking girl and uses her work money to cover for her expenses instead of splurge herself into clothing (which she loves!). Each year we try to do an event to help her with the costs of the trip. So we opened our fashion studio and created The Fashionista Session: A Fundraising Event. And what a FUN-draising this was!
So what do you think when you think Fashionista? Well, let me tell you what kind of Fashionistas came to our studio for this session: HAPPY, flirty, girlie, funny, bashful, silly, tough and rough, handsome, sweet, funky, and all in all ADORABLE little personalities.
I’d enjoyed this session more that I had expected! If you follow my work you can tell I’m more of an “outdoors” kind of photographer. I LOVE adventures, and freedom, and running, and very spontaneous and natural reactions we often don’t get in a “sterile” studio setting.
I was able to apply the same methods and antics I use in my outdoors session, but in our studio and the outcome was just one word: FUN! When photographing kids you have to be able to capture the kid’s attention when they just don’t want to be photograph. There are kids that are just so easy. They stand and smile just like mommy had taught him/her and that’s great. When I take children’s photographs I want to “know” the kid I’m photographing. I’m not just looking for a beautiful smile, I’m looking for a genuine and authentic smile or giggle or gesture that captures who he or she is at this age. I love when I hear moms say “now THAT is my kid!” There is no better compliment as a photographer as to hear those words 🙂
Thank you to all the awesome kids and parents that came!
