Gladys, Max and toddler Jacob are moving soon to Ft Lauderdale. The wanted to have a lifestyle family session Old San Juan before the move. I love it because we are still going to be in contact 🙂
I love to do family sessions. Jacob, like many toddlers, was suspicious when I first met in Old San Juan. His expression of “who are you?” and “what do you want?” was evident in the first couple of shots. I still love his boyish serious stare in this first couple of pics.
I love balloons! I always bring balloons to the sessions with me. What kid doesn’t like balloons? I used a red one, not only because it matched perfectly, but because he reminded me a little of Christopher Robin from Winnie The Pooh! 🙂
One of the things I like to do when dealing with distrusting kids is to make them feel reassured and confident in front of the camera. I have to! The best way is to make mom and dad enjoy the session. If they are comfortable their child will also be. Moms and dads interpret the world for their child. Their child don’t have to understand what is going on, all they need from mom and dad is the reassurance that everything is ok. His parents have a beautiful relationship with their son and it shows…
Your child’s favorite book usually gives them an opportunity to divert the attention from the camera. It is something that belongs to them and gives them security. It is also a common family activity and it gives me the opportunity to take great shots while he feels secure in mom and dads arms.
As mom and dad laughed and hugged him, he just completely turn around and loved and hugged them back, giving me the most gorgeous expressions of love a family could give! Family photography is all about the relationship among their members, the love for each other and the beauty of belonging to your own unique family.
From camera shy to totally confident smiling in front of the camera! They enjoyed the session and you can see the natural expressions of love among themselves! That’s the idea!
I’m glad to say that at the end of the session he hold my hand as we walked away to say our goodbyes… I’ve earned his trust and it felt wonderful!
