I have this thing for Vintage! Old beat up tables and chairs, rusty trunks, coffee color pages in old books, typewriters, super old cameras, and classic nostalgic toys, and clothing, and, and…and I can go on and on. So when it comes to styling for a photo shoot I visit thrifts stores and antique shops. So much fun, it is like treasure hunting!
I was styling for one session at a garage sale when I came across this long, stained and ripped white dress in lace. Lace! I love lace! It is so romantic and delicate. The owner told me It had belonged to her great grandma who came from Spain when she was a baby over a hundred years ago. It is an heirloom! Very interesting story, but really bad for me. No body sells their family heirlooms! But when you start taking to people great things happen. She soon found out I’m a children’s photographer and was willing to sell it to me because she knew I was going to “put the dress to good use”! 🙂
Isn’t it beautiful?
When talking to Grace’s mom, I thought we were going to do a story book character for sure. She is into Cinderella and I knew she would have love to play her part. I had everything ready and then it rained. We had to reschedule.
I visited an antique shop that weekend and found most of the props you see in the pictures. The perfect baby bonnet for the dress, the light teal ruffled spread, little baby doll carriage and the porcelain dolls; and because I had met Grace before I knew she was the perfect “life baby doll”. Everything fit perfectly together. I call and send pictures to her mom immediately and she loved the idea even more than the first one! I was super excited!
Imagine a little tent in the woods with books and toys for you to get lost in play and reading for hours! What girl wouldn’t enjoy this? A secret hideout in the woods, like a girl in the 1900’s would probably have. Like the first dress owner hopefully had. Grace loved it!
Grace honors her name. She is delicate, feminine and gracefully, perfect for this styled vintage porcelain doll session. She had so much fun in the tent! She picked the books, she played with the dolls AND with the surprise baby bunny we put in the baby carriage for her! WOW! She was so excited to play with Tiger Lily. After the shoot, she asked her mom to please bring her to the studio to visit TL! So sweet!
She gave me the most beautiful faces of happiness, excitement and enjoyment a baby doll could have never been able to express. She is the perfect life baby doll!
