“All children, except one, grow up. They soon know that they will grow up, and the way Wendy knew was this. One day when she was two years old she was playing in a garden, and she plucked another flower and ran with it to her mother. I suppose she must have looked rather delightful, for Mrs Darling put her hand to her heart and cried, ‘Oh, why can’t you remain like this for ever!’ This was all that passed between them on the subject, but henceforth Wendy knew that she must grow up. You always know after you are two. Two is the beginning of the end.”
― J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan
I remember when she I first saw her. I screamed! I couldn’t believe that something so small could move so much. Life was within me! I forever treasure that first sonogram…I was pregnant and she was only 8 weeks in my womb.
And then you actually see her face to face and your world shifts. Perspectives changes. What you thought was the most important thing in the world, all the sudden is not. You can care less about the clock and the hours passing by…I think that’s why you have such a painful and dramatic labor, so while your body is healing, you can stop the clock and be absorb by her wrinkly warm little body, such small hands and feet, and her tiny button nose, and her meter long eyelashes, and her rosy pink cheeks, and…oh, the sweetness of the miracle you are holding in your arms. To be a mother is a most valuable privilege.
I wanted to hold that moment forever. Keep that moment frozen in time…and I DID! I still have her little hands and feet, and her perfectly beautiful tiny face through photographs!
It is my tradition for every birthday as she was growing up to show her her baby pictures and retell the whole story. Her Story. Every year a better and more complete story of her. She was wanted, she was loved, she was treasured, and I had the evidence… She is eighteen now, but I still have the story of HER.
My husband was a photographer before we got married. His baby gift for me was a small Olympus film camera. He told me to always carry it in the diaper bag for wherever I went with our baby I will always have a snapshot of her daily activities…and I DID! I have the most beautiful pictures a mom could take! I’m so glad my husband and I took so many pictures because, like J.M. Barrie said, “All children, except one, grow up!” And I’m sorry to say, my baby girl was not the exception 🙁 But that’s ok. She is a beautiful young lady and I have amazing portraits to brag about her.
Mom, dad, don’t stop taking your kids’ snapshots! I don’t think we are ever going to be able to stop taking them, but there is something amazing, extraordinary, and even magical when you set aside the time and take professional photographs. Snapshots takes the ordinary everyday smiles. Creative professional photographs freezes the beauty and uniqueness of your child’s personality at whatever new faze they are at.
I love, LOVE, love sets. They help create a child’s fantasy world and let the wonder of their imagination soar free. It help creates Neverland!
Birthdays are a super big deal for our family. Out of the 365 days just ONE is absolutely, irrevocably yours! So it IS a big deal!
Our kid’s fantasy was our inspiration for birthdays, whatever crazy one was at the time… Glittery Cinderella’s castle with its big clock that chimed “at the strike of twelve” and all the princess procession. Rock Concerts with real lighted performing stages and recording artist (birthday girl)CD invitations. Vintage country styled horse theme, “real”istic dinosaur’s egg excavation sites, Nerf battle guerrillas. From glittery mermaid tails and treasure hunting, to life size Barbie boxes for a photo booth, to Medieval Kings, sword fighting and real working catapults…we had it all! Even an anime cosplay birthday party! So much fun! Kids and parents alike love to get involve in these fantasies, so why not create these adventures and magical worlds that are so unique of the innocence of childhood? That is our inspiration for a children’s photography studio. We have done it hundreds of time for ourselves and our kids with incredible memories that are forever treasured and remember. Oh, the happy moments, happy memories, …Happy Thoughts!
Happy Thoughts, like in Peter Pan, allows your kids to fly through the wonders of their imagination. That is my inspiration as a mom.. As a photographer, I want to capture this perfect innocence of childhood in beautiful photographs. As Happy Thoughts Studio, we want to “add the pixie dust!” to your special little ones.I have done it for my own kids many times.
So flash news mom, “All children, except one, grow up”! How do you want to preserve them? Are you treasuring every moment of it? How are you writing their stories to show them when they grow up for years to come?

“Growing old is inevitable, growing up is optional!”
I couldn’t agree more!
