Warning-Pet Loss
They received the not-so-good news. Her beloved dog, Blanton, only four years old, had a life-threatening condition. His best friend in the world, Oreo, has an adorable connection with him. Almost like a yin-and-yan type of relationship. Kenzie, a loyal friend, was 15 years old and getting slower every day. A brand new rescue, Petey, deemed unadoptable after twelve years of abuse and neglect, had joined the pack recently. With so many uncertainties and emotions in the air, it was time to do a meaningful family session. This is their beloved pet story.
I always like to meet and learn as much as possible about the family I’ll photograph before the session. When we meet for the session it feels more like a trusted friend visiting as opposed to a total stranger entering the sanctum of your home. You will immediately feel at ease and it will show in the photographs. Photography is an intimate, personal space and you need to earn the trust of the people you’ll capture the story of. I wouldn’t have it any other way!
The same goes for children and furbabies. You have to earn trust if you want to capture genuine moments and great story photographs. The first thing I do when I arrive is sit on the ground. Floor level. I let them talk, show me, (or smell and lick me) as much as necessary for them to know I’m there for THEM.
And then, a funny thing happened. Pete, the neglected and abused dog for over twelve years and thus unadoptable, approached me and my camera. This is the first capture. With only three months with this family, he was learning to trust humans again.
I photographed lots of great moments for this family. But when I was editing their pet story, and I came back to this photograph, I felt like HE wanted to tell the story from his perspective of their newfound beloved family.
This is their beloved pet story. It is a beautiful heartfelt story filled with playtime, love, and devotion and how these can save a rescue dog. Their story was bound in an heirloom book handcrafted in Italy to be enjoyed over and over. This book comes with a display box where you can showcase it like a frame.
Their story was inspiring and published in Stroll Magazine as well.
PS-In Loving Memory
It saddens me to tell you dear Kenzy passed at age 16. She was adored.
Petey recently passed as well. In the end, he found a loving family that overcompensated in love and care for the years lost.
I’m in awe of these two loving fur parents. I’m so grateful their story and beloved pets were photographed and will be relived in their forever photographs.
