Woodland Critters Styled Session
If you know me, I LOVE children’s books. I love the hours you can spend cuddling with your children just reading a great book. I used to read to our children for hours and I still treasure those fleeting times when they were younger.
I’m also very easily inspired. So when I come across beautifully illustrated books it is no surprising my mind goes on a “this could make a beautiful styled set for a session”. Apparently I make a face when I’m on one of those trips because even before I open my mouth to say something related, my kids all go “oh no, there she goes again!” I can’t help it! It is so much fun!
I do pre consultations for all my sessions. Whereas on the phone, Skype or at our studio, it is essential for me to meet before the session. Why? Because we get to know each other, because you know what to expect the day of the session, because it is important for me to earn your and your children’s trust, because I really want to make sure your session matches your style, and your kids imagination can really soar…
When I met these adventurers’ mom, she was so excited for the creative process. We talk about her kids and their personalities. We went through a couple of previous styled shoots so I could explain to her the idea and the whys of that particular sessions and she could understand the creative process. And then, the magic moment happens…she mentions something that clicks…her kids love to play picnic and make inside forts! (And who doesn’t!). I immediately was taken to this book! She had mention the colors she loved for her kids’ session. This was the the perfect story, scenario and inspiration for these little adventurous kids. I had been working on the styling of this shoot for a while, and I was so glad to had found the kids for the shoot.
They LOVED the interactive set and they were in play mode in no time! When you allowed children to play and explore, it is only natural that they will enjoy the experience, thus their smiles and their expressions will be spontaneous, genuine…REAL!
