Don’t be concern about outward beauty of fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes. You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit… I Peter 3:3-4
In a highly bombarded “beauty” media culture, it is so refreshing to do this kind of personal projects. There is beauty in simplicity. Oh, So pretty! One of the things I like to portray in my work is the fact that girls don’t have to be extremely ornate with tons of make up or exaggerated (or revealing) clothing in order to feel “pretty”. I actually don’t think they do feel “pretty” when they wear certain looks. They are most likely to feel insecure and need to “call” attention in the only way the world tells them they should do so, but pretty…I don’t think they feel pretty. Pretty is a state of being. It is an outer expression of your inner self. I LOVE Dove commercials that deal with the media perception of “beauty”. They are redefining what social media and collective cultural insecurities had lead young girls to believe. They are redefining self worth to a new generation. I would love to work for their campaigns 🙂 I believe you can dress modest and be extremely beautiful! I have seen this girl grow into a beautiful young godly woman she is now. I meet Alexandria Grace (Ally) when she was close to 4 years old. So cute in her bathing suit playing in the sand with shovels and pails. She is now 14 and her beauty is still captivating, but the most beautiful thing about her is her “gentle and quiet spirit” of a girl who daily chooses to follow the Lord and THAT inevitably will show. I’m so glad I was able to capture HER in these images. A very delicate, godly, and pretty girl! And the piano? Well, when we were conceptualizing her shoot, she mention “piano” and I went crazy with the idea of having a vintage piano in the fields with a tutu skirt. But finding vintage pianos is not that easy, neither is moving them around. Chances are we have a good friend who just so happened to have an old broken down piano she was more than willing to give me for my pics. I loved it! Out of tune, broken, missing keys…it was prefect, but still very heavy. Ally’s dad was kind enough to deal with the tearing and pounding and gluing and all in all super light and easy to carry vintage piano! (So thankful to you Luis) Now I have a piano I can use for my vintage pics, which if you know me, you know is most of them 🙂 (I think is time to start thinking about a pic up truck…) From little girl to a beautiful young woman…Oh, so pretty!
